Fastbacks

The Fastbacks is one of those pre-grunge band which started to build this large path. The punk rock band was formed in 1979 in Seattle by:
  • Kurt Bloch (guitarrist and songwriter)
  • Lulu Gargiulo (guitarrist and vocals)
  • Kim Warnick (bassist and vocals)

A good bunch of drummers played in Fastbacks, here some of them:
  • Mike Musburger (War Babies, Fifth Angel, Three Fish, Posies)
  • Duff McKagan (10 Minutes Warning, Walking Papers, Guns N' Roses)
  • Nate Johnson (Flop and Pure Joy)
  • Rusty Willoughby (Flop and Pure Joy)
  • John Moen (Dharma Burns, Steven Malkmus and The Decemberists)
  • Dan Peters (Bundle of Hiss and Mudhoney)
  • Richard Stuverud
  • Jason Finn (Skin Yard, Love Battery and Presidents of the United States of America)
  • Tad Hutchinson (Young Fresh Fellows)

The sound of the band contains punk and pop elements, and they got record deals with Sup Pop and PopLlama.

  • Bike  Toy  Clock  Gift - self released as a tape in 1988, re-released on No Threes Records in 1989 CD released in 1994 on Lucky Records.

  • Answer the Phone, Dummy by Sub Pop in 1994
  • New Mansions in Sound by Sub Pop in 1996
  • Day that didn't Exist bu SpinArt Records in 1999





 


The Fastback were playing for more than two decades and finally they stopped in 2001. Kim Warnick moved to another band called Visqueen that year. It supposed the end of the Fastbacks.

Kim Warnick left her retirement in 2010 behind and returned with Evan Dando (The Lemonheads) and Mikey Davis (Alien Crime Syndicate) and they all formed Calligraphers, later they recalled the band as Cali Giraffes.

Kurt Bloch got a call from Duff McKagan in order to join Guns 'n' Roses, they needed a guitar player, he did not go down to Los Angeles to play with Duff. He later played in the Young Fresh Fellows, and later formed his current band Three Stg.Major with bassist Jim Sangter (Young Fresh Fellows and The Picketts) and Mike Musburger on drums.
