Bundle of Hiss began its career in 1980 in Stanwood (between Seatlle and Vancouver), and was active till 1988. During the 90s some recordings were collected and released over a cd called "Sessions: 1986-1988".
Bundle of Hiss did not got the mainstream succes like other bands, but the members developed themselves creating good songs.
Anyway, some members have reached a long path as musicians in other bands and contributed with the Seattle scene.
Bundle of Hiss was formed by:
- Kurt Danielson (bassist).
- Jeff Hopper (guitarrist)
- Russ Barlett (drummer at the beginning, then he sang)
- Kurt Schonberg (vocalist)
Rest of the band:
- Dan Peters (drummer)
- Jamie Lane (vocalist and guitarrist)
- Tad Doyle (guitarrist)
Kurt Schonberg sang for just two demo tapes, then Russ Barlett changed his role to vocalist, leaving the drums behind.
There was a gap for a drummer and Dan Peters joined them in 1984. Dan Peters played with Bundle of Hiss until the end.
Later Jeff Hopper, the guitarrist, left the band at the same year, 1984. Jamie Lane replaced him playing the guitar. Jamie met Kurt Danielson at the university.
The band recorded two songs "Famine at Dawn" and
"Metamorphosis/Afterimage" with the producer Gordon Halperin. That happened in 1984.
In 1985 the band took the Ironwood Studios in order to record another song "Nitro", included in the compilation album "Lowlife".
During 1986 two important facts happened, first of all Bundle of Hiss made a deal with the producer Jack Endino, he had just opened his new basement, Reciprocal Studios. Endino worked with them for some recordings, for instance the song "Push", this song was included on "Bands That Will Make Money" compilation, which was released by the local radio KCMU. Listen to "Push" on the following video:
So, during 1986 another important fact happened, Russ Barlett, who was the singer, left the band. No one arrived to the Bundle of Hiss in order to replace him and complete the lineup, but Jamie Lane became the singer besides playing the guitar. The lineup became a trio.
The band changed the producer in 1987, Rick Vaughan were during a one year working with the sound in Audio Design in Seattle.
Sup Pop released the band's work in June, 1988, Bundle of Hiss could enjoyed a full length album in the market despite the band had been deceased.
Tad Doyle played with the band briefly with them, Doyle and Danielson created Tad later. Tad Doyle came from a band called H-Hour as a drummer.
Then Jamie Lane (vocals and guitar) left the band on the summer of 1988, he continued with his studies, that brought the breakup of Bundle of Hiss.
Doyle and Danielson formed Tad. Dan Peters joined Mudhoney.
During the album released called "Sessions: 1986-1988" these were the members involved: Kurt Danielson (bassist), Dan Peters (drummer) and Jamie Lane (vocals and guitarrist).
Recordings were lost for years until 1992, Jamie Lane and Kurt Danielson found them from Audio Design.
Jack Endino tried to collected all these recordings in 1998 in order to remaster them, but the material was lost once again. Finally, they could recovered the recordings from Dan Peters belongings.
Jack Endino worked hard and finally the expected album was released in July of 2000 through Loveless Records.
