The Accüsed

First Period

The Accüsed is a thrash metal band from Oak Harbor, Washington, later the band was closer to the punk scene. Anyway this band has been an important influence to the alternative and rock Seattle scene for many years. For instance, related with Tad.

It was formed in 1981, and they called their muic with the name "splattercore", being the zombie mascot, Martha Splatterhead, which were included on most of their covers.

They were playing until 1992, then the band got a 11 year break. They returned in 2003 and still on the road. But let's start with the beginning 1981-1992.

Founders were:
  • Tommy Niemeyer, guitarist
  • Chibon Chewy Batterman, bassist
  • Dana Collins, drummer
They delayed the vocalist input in 1982, John Dahlin sang in the band two years. During these years two demo cassettes were made "Brain Damage", as well as the album called "Please Pardon Oyur Noise, It Is The Sound Of Freedom" in 1983.

Then Blaine Cook, former The Fartz vocalist, joined them in the place of Dahlin. Blaine was who in somehow moved the band sound to punk rock.

The next LPs were "More Fun Than an Open Casket Funeral" released in 1987 by Combat Records, and "Martha Splatterhead's Maddest Stories Ever Told" releasd in 1988 also by Combat Recods.

Also in 1988 was released "Hyms for the Deranged" by Empty Records.

In this album worked Jack Endino.

They change once again the record label on the next recordings, they worked with Sup  Pop.

The next LP was named "Grinning Like An Undertaker", released in 1990 over Sup Pop and Nastymix Records.

Dana Collins left the band, and the drummer Josh Sinder started to play with The Accüsed.

The Accused continued its career with the EP "Straight Razor", released in 1991 by Nastymix Records.

Josh Sinder played the drums for the first time in the band.

And in the next year, 1992, The Accüsed took a hiatus, that was hold until 2003.

Between this eleven years, Tommy Niemeyer joined Gruntruck. On the other hand, Blaine Cook and Alex "Maggot Brain" Sibbald went to The Fartz.

Second Period

From 2003 until 2005 The Accüsed played some gigs aroung Seattle.

The Accüsed released another album "Oh, Martha! Baked Tapes" through Nuclear Blast in 2005. It had good reviews overall.

Tommy Niemeyer took the vocals role in the song "13 Letters". Blaine Cook was not in the band nevermore.

On the same year, the compilation "34 Song Archives Tapes 1981-86" was also released, it collected tape recordings.

Some singer were in the band lineup, such as Mike Patton (ex Mr.Bungle), but he was too busy and Mike suggested Brad Mowen.

Brad joined The Accüsed in 2008, with him the band composed two new songs "Scotty Came Back" and "Fuck Sorry"

With that new lineup, the band created a new album "The Curse of Martha Splatterhead". It was released in 2009by Southern Lord Records.

This album forced the record label to trade more CDs since the first amount was sold out.

With Brad Mowen singing, and Tommy Niemeyer as guitar player and Josh Sinder on drums, the band is still playing, and never lost their underground label.
